This past weekend we went to the circus.  Even though I’ve grown up here & lived in the Atlanta area my entire life, I really don’t go downtown all that often.  But driving through the streets I was reminded of all the great places right at my fingertips to take the kids.

1.  Imagine It!  Children’s Museum of Atlanta - A hands on museum. As in,  you don’t have to be afraid of the kids touching anything … they’re supposed to touch it all.  There’s levers, grocery stations, bulldozers, painting, fishing, train tracks, live entertainment, moon sand & more!  It’s thought out so well!  Plus it gets Extra Points in my book – You can enjoy their menu for lunch (they have a modified Chick-Fil-A menu) or you can bring your own lunch.  A great way to save money!!

2.  World of Coca-ColaCoke is King in Atlanta! And the World of Coke is awesome!  It’s recently been remodeled so it’s fresh & new.  You basically walk through the history of coke – memorabilia, watch old commercials, and see assembly plants.  By far the favorite of every kid (and adult probably too) is the drinking area.  You can taste coke from all over the world!  The big joke is that “Beverly” is the best.  *Wink*Wink* – it’s actually horrible!!!  But you can wash it down with your favorite and get rid of that nasty taste:)  There’s also a great store where you can purchase anything ‘coke’ related that you’ve ever dreamed, or never even thought of!

3.  Georgia AquariumAtlanta is home to the world’s largest aquarium! I think that’s pretty cool.  It hasn’t been in Atlanta too terribly long, so I’ve only been once but I know it’s a place that a variety of ages can enjoy!

4.  Zoo AtlantaWe love the zoo! The kids of course enjoy all the animals, but then they also have a petting area, train ride, and carousel ride.  And again, you’re welcome to bring a cooler full of food – always appealing to me!  Plus there’s free parking!

5.  Tellus MuseumNow Tellus isn’t in the city, but wonderful just the same.  In fact it’s actually even a little more wonderful because you don’t have to fight the city streets & parking is free.  Now there are definitely some exhibits that are too old for my pre-school kids.  And a couple of rooms they had no interest in & I wanted to run them out quickly before breaking anything.  BUT – there was plenty to keep them engaged – panning for gold, digging for dinosaur bones, looking at at dinosaur replica’s.  It was alot of fun!

6.  The FoxBuilt in the 1920’s, this place is beautiful!! Now granted, the Fox in general isn’t really a kid’s place, but you must check their schedule because there’s always wonderful things going on.  Coming up soon is a live performance of Mary Poppins & Curious George!!

7.  Sporting Events – Hawks, Thrashers, Braves, Falcons - I think it’s awesome that our city has four major sporting teams – there’s bound to be a sporting event anytime you visit!  Evan’s only been to a Braves game so far, and he loved it!  Of course he was a little disappointed when he learned he didn’t get to actually play with the team!!

8.  Center for Puppetry Arts - Puppets! What more do you need to know.  There’s always something great going on when puppets are involved!

9.  Stone Mountain ParkA little bit of everything! You can climb the mountain, ride a train, or watch a laser show.  In the winter they even turn Stone Mountain into Snow Mountain!!

10.  Six Flags over GeorgiaIt’s one of the 6 flags!! It’ll be a while before we go there with Megan & Evan, but it’s a great place for a little older.  Granted they have plenty of young kid activities too, but I personally just can’t muster up the thought of carrying them around the park just yet!

So, if you’re in Atlanta or visiting soon … lots of great things & places to enjoy!  And with all the venues there’s sure to be something ‘extra’ in town too, so Ticketmaster is always a great resource!!
