Top Ten Reasons to Try Zemanta
Just last week I downloaded Zemanta. Have you heard of it or tried it? I’ve only played around with it on about four posts and there’s several things that I still have questions on. Sometimes I feel that it does wonky things with my layout. But here’s a couple of reasons that I really hope I end up loving it!!
1. Media Gallery – Posts with personal pictures have never been that big of a deal to me. I have the pictures, I find them, and put them in a post. But I absolutely hate looking for stock pictures. Seems like such a waste of time to me (although very important still – people like pictures). But Zemanta makes it so easy!! It suggests certain pictures based upon the content of you post. You select which picture(s) you want to include and they’re linked with source!! Easy as pie!
2. Flickr Access – Don’t need a stock photo? Want a photo from you Flickr account instead? Not a problem. You can link your Flickr Account with Zemanta. And Zemanta will suggest photos from your Flickr account – genius!
3. Intext Links – No more inserting links to some basic sites – Zemanta does it for you. You can select all its recommendations or just a select few. Your choice – but whatever you decide the links are already there!
4. Suggested Tags - As you write your posts, Zemanta keeps a running list of suggested tags. Then, just like the intext links, you decide which tags you want to select – any, all or none. And you can always add more if Zemanta doesn’t pick the ones you want.
5. Reblog - At the bottom, right side of this post you’ll notice a cute little “reblog” button. I love this feature! Let’s say I write something incredibly brilliant one day (just pretend on that one!!). You could click the little “reblog” button & and it will copy an excerpt of my post for you to insert in your post! And don’t worry about plagiarism – it automatically quotes it & gives credit!
6. Amazon Affiliate Links – Do you have an Amazon Affiliate account? Just like Flickr, you can link your accounts & Zemanta will insert links to Amazon products. Brilliant!
7. Social Media Content – Do you ever Tweet about something, then go write a post about it, then look back through your Twitter account to pull a copy of your tweets? Zemanta will do some of that for you! I haven’t tested it out completely, but from what I’m understanding – it’s pretty cool!
8. Recognizes Twitter Talk – I’m sure there’s a fancier way to say that. But here’s an example – “You can follow me on Twitter @itscome2this.” (I didn’t copy & paste that link – Zemanta did it all by it self)!
9. Recognizes Additional Content Sources - Do you have multiple blogs & from time to time want to reference one or the other? It’s easy to add a second blog & then you can pull content from one blog to the other!
10. It’s Easy – Everything I’ve mentioned comes from simply downloading the program and setting your preferences.
Have you tried Zemanta? What are your favorite features so far?
*Disclaimer – I certainly do not know all. And more importantly, it’s very possible that I’m explaining something wrong. So please don’t hold me to every bullet. It’s also entirely possible that I’m missing out on some of the very best features – I’m still exploring after all. But the point is, in the week I’ve been using it … I would recommend it.

This sounds great! I’ve been doing most of those things on my own, and since I’m such a techno failure, it takes me forever. I’m going to try this, thanks!

I have heard of Zemanta before but hadn’t really read more about it. Thanks for the information. Maybe one of these days I’ll actually get it. (I tend to put those kinds of things off.)

I tried Zemanta a long time ago and you’re right, it made my layout wonky. But I don’t think it had the amazon affiliate then. I am going to re-download it or upload it or whatever! Cool!

I tried Zemanta once upon a time and was totally confused by it. Maybe it’s time to give it another try! Thanks for this reminder and for sharing your experiences.

Sounds like something I’d like to try! I’m a little intimidates by the idea of it making my layout “wonky” however. Since my brother is the one who created my layout on my blog, I know nothing of how to fix certain things since it’s in HTML code or whatever. I’ll have to talk to him about it!

Ok, I probably should have clarified that better. Sometimes it just does wonky things to the post itself – so no worries about HTML or anything like that … I’d be in lots of trouble too!! I’ve always been able to fix it by hitting “undo” and moving the text/pictures around. So no major deal, but just annoying. Zemanta actually commented to me via twitter and gave me a link to help with it. So we shall see!
