Works for me wednesday … the gift bin
The Gift Bin
Two weeks ago I talked a little bit about my Party Bin and you guys gave me some more great ideas & tips to make it even better. So, I’m hoping we might be able to help each other out again!
Now I’ve heard of people having Gift Closets before & believe me I wish I had one, but space is much to be desired and frankly I don’t have enough. So I resort to a Gift Bin. It still fills the same concept and idea.
Do you have a gift bin (or are you one of the lucky ones with a closet)?
I have a large rubbermaid container. It gets filled on a regular basis with a variety of different things. Usually clearance items. And yes, even some re-gifting items!! My rule is if it still has tags, can’t be used and can’t be returned then I’ll re-gift, – But I suppose the re-gifting issue is a whole other post!
I’ve taken advantage of several Bath & Body Works’ sales to stock up on lotions & body sprays. At just three dollars (or less) I’ll fill my bin up with those and then I have something on hand for an unexpected Sunday School Teacher gift {because my children can be tough and I try to offset that with gifts & goodies!!}.
I’ll also stock up on baby gift items, stationary, and just random toys. Especially goodie bag type toys that I can pull out for special prizes. I do my best to stock up on items for Christmas and birthday presents throughout the year as well – if it’s a good price and someone can use it that I’ll be buying for anyways … in the bin it goes!
But I love my little bin, it’s my go-to place for an unexpected (or even the expected) gift!
So if you store gifts throughout the year, what do you store? Do you have a good system I could learn from?

Great idea…I need to be better at this! I think in the past I haven’t had a designated place for the gifts I would find ahead of time, and that has been my problem. Sounds like I should get a bin!

I need a bin! I have several items that I’ve been accumulating, but need something to put them in. I just put them in our gift/game closet. Hope I remember to pull them out if needed.

LOVE this idea! I’ve heard of it before and I really want to start doing that. I just never seem to be at the right place at the right time with the right amount of money! I want to start buying my girls their Christmas and birthday gifts throughout the year when stuff is on sale. Again, I’m always a dollar short and a day late. I need to get on the ball! I especially like the goody bag toys idea. Those can get so expensive when you buy them all at once for a party.

Love the idea of a bin! I have a cabinet in my laundry room that I use.
I hit clearance sales for clothing items for family, jewelry, bath products, even some candy items! It’s so handy to have those little things tucked away when the need arises… I know I’ve saved a bundle from not having to run out at the last minute. How do you organize your bin? I have shelves, of course, in my cabinet… is it still easy to find things in there? I’m afraid I”d be guilty of just tossing stuff in there..

GUILTY!! Yeah, mine’s not very neat. I just don’t have any other space right now. I wish I had an extra closet somewhere.

I really need to begin doing this to save myself from going to the stores for last minute gifts and spending more/giving less than I had planned.
Thanks for the reminder.

I’ve been buying more clearance stuff lately, I have several gifts for my daughter’s bday that’s still 2 months away. But I have no organization–things are tucked here and there in the master closet, the hall closet, one big gift for my son for Christmas is wrapped and in my bathtub (yes, my huge luxurious master bathtub is used for storage, so sad!)–so obviously I need a better system. I will make a note to buy a big rubbermaid when I find a good sale, that should help a lot–great idea!

I used to have a closet for gifts, now my space is limited as well. I love this idea of gift bins.
